We encourage artists at any stage in their career to apply. We seek to fund studio-based work in all disciplines.

All proposals will be reviewed by a committee that includes curators, artists, writers, filmmakers and performers.

Proposals will be evaluated with the following in mind:

  • Artistic merit
  • Future promise

If your proposal is accepted, you will be invited to att a SPREAD event where you will make a short oral presentation (five minutes) so that SPREAD diners can get excited about your proposal. If your idea wins the most votes, you get the grant that evening and you will be invited to a future SPREAD dinner to talk about the progress of your project. Winners are advised to consult a tax professional regarding the appropriate treatment of the SPREAD grant for Internal Revenue Service purposes.

SPREAD micro-grants fund artworks conceived by New Mexico-based artists. SPREAD grants can be as much as $5,000 or more; they are not for funding an art gallery/non-profit organizations’ overall work.

If you have a question about how this might apply to you, please use our contact page for any inquiries you might have. Please no calls.

The 2017 SPREAD 6.0 application period opens Thursday, December 1, 2016 and will continue through Sunday, January 15, 2017. The next SPREAD dinner will take place Friday, April 21, 2017.
