SPREAD 4.0!
SITE Santa Fe is thrilled to announce that the fourth SPREAD community dinner will be held on Friday, October 11, 2013 7pm at the Santa Fe Farmers Market.
NEW! THEMATIC FOCUS FOR SPREAD 4.0
For our upcoming SPREAD cycle, we invite artists working in ALL disciplines to submit proposals for projects that relate to food. This can include works that address food issues, food access, farming, nutrition, cooking and dining. In addition to receiving the funds generated by the SPREAD dinner in October, the winner of SPREAD 4.0 will have the opportunity to have their project represented in SITE’s forthcoming exhibition: FEAST: Radical Hospitality in Contemporary Art, opening at SITE in February 2014. From painters and photographers to artist activists and farmers- ALL ARE ENCOURAGED TO APPLY!
The SPREAD 4.0 application period will open June 7 and continue through July 7. More info on the application process, including application tips, can be found here.
SMALL GRANTS FOR BIG IDEAS
SITE Santa Fe’s SPREAD is a
micro-granting initiative that provides small grants for innovative projects conceived by New Mexico-based artists. SPREAD is a recurring public dinner designed to generate community-driven financial support to fund artistic innovation.
HOW SPREAD WORKS
At a large community dinner, diners pay a sliding scale entrance fee (starting at $15), for which they will receive dinner and a ballot. During dinner, the SPREAD audience will hear short proposals from up to eight artists for innovative and yet-to-be-realized new projects. Diners will then cast their votes for their favorite project. At the of dinner, the artist whose proposal receives the most votes will be awarded all the funds collected at the door to realize their project.
The inaugural SPREAD event, held on March 18, 2011, raised $7,722 in proceeds from the door, which was then given to the winning artist group, Meow Wolf, to support their installation The Due Return at Center for Contemporary Art. SPREAD 2.0, held on October 28, 2011, raised $8,015 which was awarded to filmmaker/artist Jason Jaacks for his Reel Youth Stories project. SPREAD 3.0, held September 7, 2012, raised $7,007 for Cut+Paste Society’s project Snow Poems. For more info on the previous finalists and winners, click here.

Hello, I want to make sure that I understand correctly: only proposals that relate to food will be accepted this year? As someone who was intending to apply, for the first time, the thematic focus comes as a surprise and disappointment, honestly.
The Spread idea of community granting and involvement is utterly beautiful, and I want to thank you for carrying out the vision, despite my personal disappointment this year!
Warmly,

Hi Griet,
SPREAD 4.0 will have a food-related focus, yes. This is the first time we have put out a thematic call for SPREAD applications, and we’re very excited to be able to offer applicants the opportunity to have their project incorporated into the Feast exhibition here at SITE in February 2014. This is a unique opportunity, and does not necessarily mean that future SPREAD cycles will be thematic. We hope you will apply to a future cycle!
